So I realized I've accidentally been using the term 'white knight' a bit incorrectly, the correct definition is: a person who defends someone who is clearly wrong, usually with the hopes of gaining brownie points with the person they are defending. A couple of times when people have gone behind my back to attack others for not following my rules, I've said they were 'white knighting', but what I meant was more along the lines of mini-modding hahah

but here's a problem I've actually noticed, a lot of people are using the term white knight wrong?? Like it's turned into a quick thing someone can sling out at a person to invalidate the logic behind their argument. Example: Person A complains about a person's prices on the person's page. Person B replies to their comment explaining why the prices are high, explaining that comments like that can hurt a person's business or feelings, or some other reasoning. Instead of either accepting that what they did wasn't okay, or giving a logical counter-argument, person A calls person B a white knight to invalidate the logic behind their message.

That is actually a form of ad hominem, which is a logical fallacy.........

lmao I guess I have been misusing white knighting too. I use it as a form of "the ass lickers defending/attacking people unnecessarily for saying something that goes against their idol (which is generally an ass tbh)". Like I feel mini-modding can cross into white knight territory if/when the minimodder is being grossly aggressive with the hope to score brownie points with the idol/person they are harassing others over.
